Opening Thoughts:

This film was panned by almost everyone. This is yet another display of the poor choices made by Sony yet again. Given all the incredible negativity around the film, I still decided to watch it. I suppose it was morbid curiosity that got te best of me. How bad could it truly be? Also, I enjoyed plenty of superhero films, not all of them well-beloved. So maybe this would have been something I’d appreciate more than others. Turns out, nothing went well in Madam Web and I long for the days of Morbius

Plot:

An EMT driver gets the power of foresight and uses her abilities to help three young women who one day will become superheroes.

Dislikes:

The script isn’t great, but Dakota Jonhnson’s delivery is abhorrent. If she didn’t care enough to try, she should have dropped the film and gone and made some other lackluster garbage she is known for. Not that anyone should be getting applause for their acting in this film.

The characters are unlikable as they are one-dimensional.

The action sequences are often poorly constructed and look terrible. Lackluster CGI and choreography.

It somehow reminds us that even though we are in the Spider-man Universe, Sony has no intention of bringing Spider-man into it. Something that would have made it much more interesting. So we are left with scraps and it feels like this film should be left to the wolves.

Likes:

This film is irredeemable. If you worked on this film in a particular area. If you can slice up the film and add it to your portfolio in regards to something like costume design or perhaps sound design, something like that. All the power to you. However, the general vibe of the film is that nobody cared and nobody should watch it.

Closing Thoughts:

If Sony doesn’t want to invest properly in its movies and characters, they shouldn’t have them. Give the rights to all the Spiderverse characters to Marvel proper. Marvel hasn’t been perfect, but at least they give some effort most of the time. Better yet, stop all the superhero films and shut it down for some time. When Sony is ready to give these characters and stories proper respect and support, they can return to it. Of course, this is just a break before the next abomination by Sony hits theaters sometime this summer I think. I would hope that is better, but Sony can find a way to make a worse movie.
