Season One: Episode Three
Air Date: June 14th, 1990
Writers: Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld
Starring: Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards
Plot: Jerry tries to get out of being friends with someone he no longer shares interests with.
This is maybe my least favorite episode of season one. I have no compassion for the friend in question. For me, this is a simple solution, you distance yourself from the person. You can try to be polite, but if that fails then avoid the awkwardness. Say, it is over and be on your separate ways.
Jerry in this situation is friends with a guy who is a real bastard. He is cruel and disrespectful. Incredibly whiny and insecure. I would want to get rid of this “friend” as well.
I do believe Jerry could have been more direct. Trying to weasel out of something is insincere and as this episode proves leads to more problems than it is worth.
Again, I still don’t consider any of the characters to be bad people. They are flawed like all of us, but not yet terrible.
