What I Didn’t Like
While the soundtrack of this film is still good, I find the original movie’s soundtrack more enjoyable. It felt perfect for the various parts of the film, this time it worked much of the time, but occasionally missed.
There are some pacing issues, the movie slows down to a crawl briefly in the second act.
The biggest issue comes in the story. It felt very scattered, like this film was cleaning up some loose ends before moving into the real Marvel universe. There were multiple plots it was juggling and I wished it stuck to one a bit more firmly.
Minor Spoiler Warning- I was hoping for some more connections to the Marvel universe as we know it. I didn’t get it.
What I Did Like
Much like the first film, the humor in this movie is fantastic and of high energy. It can’t say the humor will always work, but often enough to be declared a hit.
This movie certainly has some heart, even more than the last film. It takes the characters we know and love and grows them further. We understand and connect to them in new ways and that I special. It was a fascinating film to watch albeit sometimes simple. It was fascinating to watch and I hope to watch it again soon.
The villain wasn’t what I hoped for, but it was among the superior villains Marvel has put out so far. I think it fit into their future well enough without causing many issues.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 does not outdo the original as far as story is concerned. However, the humor, action, character development, and spectacular visuals proved to be entertaining. The film kicks off the summer movie season in terrific fashion.
