Blast from the Past (1999)
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance
Starring: Brendan Fraser, Alicia Silverstone, Christopher Walken, Sissy Spacek
What happens when a young man who lived his entire life (35 years) in a bomb shelter comes up to the surface?
This is a 1990’s comedy to the letter. It is strange, but in the 90’s it worked (like Fraser). You can look back at this film and find it too silly in today’s ultra-serious, ultra raunchy comedy world. (Not always that way, but it happens).
I enjoyed watching this film in the early 2000s, I watched it again last year and still liked it a lot. The humor isn’t for everyone, but the cast is lovely. Christopher Walken works as a intelligent, quirky, paranoid scientist who sends his family into a bomb shelter. The film mocks the change over from the 1960’s to the late 1990’s. What a drastic change that was and I loved that the film explored it.
This isn’t the best film or best comedy of the 1990’s, but if you watch it. I hope you will enjoy as much as I do. It’s light, it’s fun, and I hope it isn’t too long until I see it again.
