What we learned

1- Marvel has the winning formula still. Sure, it made slightly less than the original, but nearly one and a half billion dollars is something I’m sure Marvel and Disney would take every single time.

2- People love a carefree comedy with a cast of talented female actors (Pitch Perfect two)

3 A well-made period piece can still make money.

4 For all the advancement in CGI, practical effects still look the best and earn the most respect.

5 Even a poorly made comedy with two powerful female personalities (Vergara and Witherspoon) can be enough to make money for a studio.

6 Audiences will watch something new and refreshing, but you can’t tack on a cheap, overly preachy ending that spoils the movie (Tomorrowland).

7- Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig are at their best when working together. They should do it as much as possible for the benfit of everyone involved. (Audiences included.)

8 A cheap horror movie with nothing but cliché jump scares can make money if you give it a PG-13 rating.

Title Budget Box-Office Star Power/IMDb Genre
Aloha (Sony/Columbia) 37 Million 26.2 Million Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Bill Murray (5.5) Comedy, Romance

1 Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone can do many things great, but they lacked chemistry and this movie just felt awkward from the start.

*Made 750 Million or more
