31 Days of Horror: The Others

The Others (2001)

Genre: Horror, Thriller

Starring: Nicole Kidman, Christopher Eccleston

The Others happens to be one of my favorite ghost movies of all time.  It is about a mother of two photosensitive children who slowly becomes convinced that her house is haunted.

Nicole Kidman was spectacular in the role as she won a Fright Meter and Fangoria Award for Best Actress because of this role.  (Also winning another Best Actress from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films)

The film is beautifully crafted, well acted, and well written. I didn’t even loathe the child actors in the film (and I often do). In an era where horror has become torture porn (blood and guts all day long), this movie transcends it and messed with you on the psychological level.  The film is creepy and builds tension masterfully throughout.  The reveal is satisfying and very emotional.  In the end, I consider The Others to be one of the finest horror films ever made (especially after the year 1990).

What is your favorite ghost movie? (I swear if you say Ghost Dad.….we can’t be friends anymore.)
