Evil Dead 2 (1987)
Genre: Horror, Comedy
Director: Sam Raimi
Starring: Bruce Campbell
Ash, the sole survivor of the first movie, is still trapped in the haunted forest with flesh-possessing demons trying to attack his very soul. Meanwhile, a new group of strangers, one of whom is the daughter of the doctor who unleashed the demons in the first place, they are traveling into the forest via an alternate path and now find themselves stuck in the same gruesome madness as Ash.
Once again, Raimi brings everything he can into this film. All the special effects and madness he can possibly squeeze on film in a beautiful package. Yes, he goes back to some of the shocking details used in the original film, but he improves upon them and mixes some entirely new things into the mix which is appreciated. There isn’t too much more to say about the film, it is still immensely insane, bloody, violent, and unpredictable. Only this time, the comedic moments are more intentional. The humor used to lighten what is still a dark film with horrible concepts (enough to make your skin crawl).
Finally, Bruce Campbell is perfect once more as Ash, the madness ensues as you get a second helping of world of Evil Dead.
Plus, the ending sets up an intriguing third act that is also worth watching. That is a post for another day however.
