Based on the true story of Philippe Petit’s crossing of the World Trade Towers. (Check out Man on Wire documentary for more information about this historical event.) The buzz on this film is that the 3D is superb, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the cast are all very good. All the details that go into making a movie are masterfully crafted, but the story has some pacing issue. It’s got everything you love in a good heist film, except the heist is a guy walking across a high wire on maybe the grandest stage of them all. (One of the few times we can call 1970’s New York City “grand”. )

Pan is a live-action version of the Peter Pan story. This time it has Captain Blackbeard played by Hugh Jackman and it tells the origin story of both Pan and his infamous nemesis, Hook. The animated version was quite good (along with racist and sexist, but it was the 1950’s so I guess that means it’s okay, but not really.) I personally loved Hook (1991) as a child, but it’s lost some of its magic when I’ve grown up (still good though). This movie looked questionable. I mentioned in my discussion of October films that this movie may be good or not so much. It was going to be released months ago, but kept getting pushed back. That is always a cause for concern for me.
