New Releases

The Visit

Genre: Comedy, Horror (Isn’t that most Shyamalan work?)

Director: M. Night Shyamalan

Things go very wrong shortly after a mother sends her two children to stay with her parents.

IMDB: 7.0 of 5,659

Rotten Tomatoes: 63% 5.8/10 63% Liked the film

I know many have been scared off by Shyamalan and with good reason (The Last Airbender/After Earth were both something truly wicked.). He has found ways to fail in the most amazing ways possible. However, this movie seems to be a step up from his recent disasters. I’m not saying this will restore his name completely, but it may be a start in that direction. From all I’ve seen, this is not a bad film, but neither is it great. If you are looking for a creepy movie with some humor. This is your safest bet this week.

The Perfect Guy

Genre: Thriller

A newly single woman starts dating a guy that appears to be too good to be true.  (Hmmm, I wonder what happens next?)

I have almost not confidence in this film being good. It seems to be another unoriginal piece of garbage. I may go on to eat these words, but right now I highly doubt it.

Sleeping with Other People

Genre: Comedy

Starring:  Jason Sudeikis, Allison Brie

Two carefree swingers/players decide to form a platonic relationship with one another. However, love and affection slowly draws them in closer..

IMDB: 6.4 of 578 ratings

Rotten Tomatoes: 53%  6/10  71% Liked the Film

Reminds me a bit too much of Trainwreck (2015), except not quite as entertaining or as well written. If you want a light comedy, you may be satisfied with this film. I can’t see it winning Comedy of the Year, but you could do worse.

90 Minutes in Heaven

Genre: Drama

Starring: Kate Bosworth, Hayden Christensen

A man comes back to life after being pronounced dead after a horrible car accident. He claims to have seen Heaven.

Maybe it is lingering displeasure over the Star Wars prequels, but I’m not ready to see Christensen in anything else. The movie also feels like one of those targeting those of the Christian faith. So if you are a strong supporter of that religion. You may appreciate this movie more than others. If not, may be best to steer clear.

IMDB: 4.1 of 207  ratings

Rottent Tomatoes 22% 5.4  62% liked it
