A movie about a group of misfits who grew up on the poor side of town trying to save their neighborhood from being foreclosed on by finding the treasure of one-eyed willy.

This is one of those movies that if you grew up with, you likely love. If you didn’t, you find it strange. I really like this film. The kids dialog is that of real kids around this. It’s not proper or clean like you see in family movies today. (Kids in movies today talk like Robin in the original Batman sitcom….was that show a sitcom? Whatever it was, it was sure funny to me.)

This movie gets really weird at times (I’m talking creepiest 1980s romance ever) and the best way to define that is just by stating that it is a 1980’s movie.

There is another factor to this movie that I like. It speaks a lot about the changing of America. The rise of industry and urban renewal projects where sometimes close-knit neighborhoods are broken up for the sake of building a parking lot or mini-mall.  That idea of rich business tycoons vs the average man runs very strong in this film.

For kid actors, these kids did fine by me. The adventure was exciting and there are plenty of memorable moments, and a rather improbable ending. I think it is a very fun movie and since I grew up with it I will cherish the original with all my heart.

The fact that they are working on a remake fills me with rage and disgust, but that is Hollywood today.
