The Terminator (1984)
Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger
A nearly indestructible cyborg from the future is sent back in time to assassinate a waitress because her unborn son would one day rise up and lead the humans against the machines. Meanwhile, another soldier from the future is sent to defend her from this killer cyborg. Together they elude and attempt to destroy this threat or face their doom.
How great is this movie? Say what you will of the acting skills of Arnold Schwarzenegger, but this is the role he was born to play. As I’ve mentioned before, James Cameron certainly found inspiration from Westworld (1973), he took some scenes and ideas and fixed them up for his movie. I look at Cameron not as a great inventor, but as a great innovator. He used the talent and material he had available and made an awesome film. True, some of the graphics look a little dated, but not to the point where you can’t sit back and enjoy the movie. Terminator is one of the all time awesome films, an iconic sci-fi classic.
I know there is a new Terminator film that will take it back to the time period of this film. I’m a bit worried, but also hopeful that they can put together a good terminator movie (after two bad ones).
