Rewind- (The 1970’s) The French Connection (1971)

The French Connection (1971)

Cast- Gene Hackman, Roy Schieder

I say often how I don’t like Crime films, but now and then comes a movie in the genre that I can truly appreciate. The French Connection happens to be one of those films.  It’s a basic story about two NYC cops stumbling into a narcotics ring with a French connection and their determination to find out uncover and stop the perpetrators behind it. Gene Hackman is amazing in this movie (he tends to be amazing) as Jimmy Doyle. This movie also has the second best car chase scene to this point (1971) in movie history. The best car chase scene maybe ever belonging to Bullitt(1968) starring Steve McQueen. (They even mentioned that movie in last week’s Archer episode. Awesome car for an awesome chase.)  The movie has a good mystery, good acting, the car chase is among the best ever made. If you appreciate classic movies (new classic) then The French Connection needs to be on your movies to watch list.
