The Rewind (1960’s) To Sir, With Love (1967)

To Sir, With Love (1967)
Starring Sidney Poitier

This film is rather similar to Blackboard Jungle (1955) which also has Poitier. It’s about an idealistic teacher who comes across unruly white teenagers from the slums of London’s East-End. You know how this one goes. They hate each other at first, but slowly and surely they find a new-found respect for one another. The teacher teaches the kids that they have more value than they ever realized, the kids teach the teacher how much talent they have when they apply it. It is predictable and been done before. However, the cast is good, Poitier does a swell job once again. I feel it does capture the feel of the youth in London during the late 1960’s. It was a time of great change throughout the world and England was no different.
