Watched a 1990’s classic tonight in Men in Black (1997). To this day, I still consider Men in Black one of the best movies of the 1990’s. Even 17 years after its release, much of its effects are still good. The CGI aliens look bit dated, but not enough to ruin the movie. I love almost everything about this movie. What I think was most impressive was how they created this alternate reality (supposedly) where aliens and humans lived alongside one another. The little details like references to major pop culture events, those outlandish newspapers, technological advancements, and even modern social issues like immigration create a unique world. (Something they never did very well in two sequels.)
Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones work great together in this science fiction comedy. The story incorporates a bunch of different looking races of aliens that all have unique personalities. Almost every scene has a little humor to it or is of crisp design. Given the noticeable amount of sludge aka bad movies in the 1990’s, this one is among the more impressive movies. I went to the theaters to watch it the first time and all these years later I still enjoy the movie greatly.

What are two films that would define the 1990’s for you?
I picked Gremlins 2 (1990) and Fight Club (1999).
