Bringing Up Baby (1938)
Director: Howard Hawks
Starring: Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn
I’m here to talk about what is perhaps my favorite film of the 1930’s, Bringing Up Baby.
It stars Katherine Hepburn and Carey Grant; two of my favorite stars from the early days of film. It was also directed by Howard Hawks, a director I have a great deal of respect for; a pioneer of film in his time.
The film centers around Grant, a paleontologist who is trying to secure funds who is consistently being interrupted and inconvenienced by the eccentric heiress (Hepburn) and her pet leopard named “Baby”.
I’d argue that this movie is among if not the funniest film of the 1930’s (and beyond). Hepburn and Grant have good chemistry together which is why they’d teamed up four times to make some good films.
