Opening Movies for 10/31/14

Here are your opening movies of 10/31/14
I will be doing a special opening day post for Interstellar come next Tuesday, November 4th.

Andrew’s Movie Pick of the Week
Nightcrawler- (No, not the X-Men) IMDB rating-8.3
Nightcrawler stars Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko/Brokeback, Mountain), Rene Russo (Thor, Big Trouble) and Bill Paxton (Edge of Tomorrow, Twister). Written and directed by Dan Gilroy who hasn’t done enough worthwhile for me to comment on.
Nightcrawler is about a late night LA crime journalist that gradually gets more involved in cases. He shifts in-between being a reporter of crimes to the creator of crimes. Harkens back to the old Nietzsche quote, “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster… for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.”
I think this movie has a very intriguing idea behind it and that it may be some of the best work Gyllenhaal has ever done. It looks dark, gritty, and if you’re a lover of crime/thrillers then this your movie.

Before I Go to Sleep-(IMDB Rating-6.4) To me this movie seems like a mix between 50 First Dates and Memento as strange as that may seem.  A woman (Nicole Kidman) wakes up without her memory, but some terrifying developments make her question everything she has relearned.  I feel like this movie has been done several times before. I won’t call it a bad movie, but it’s also one I wouldn’t run to the theaters to watch.  If you are into these types of memory loss mysteries, then by all means go watch it and enjoy.

Horns-(IMDB rating-6.6) If you like Daniel Radcliffe beyond his role as Harry Potter then you may want to check out this fantasy-horror flick.  You have mysterious death of a girlfriend followed by creepy events to come and a bizarre transformation. It looks like one of your above average horror films that will want to toy with your mind. If you’re into that, check it out.

I wish everyone out there who enjoys the holiday a wonderful and safe Halloween!
