31 Days of Horror: Nightmare Before Christmas

Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Genre:Animation, Family, Fantasy

If you saw my review of the Boxtrolls (2014) https://andrewthemovieguy714.wordpress.com/2014/09/29/the-boxtrolls-2014-movie-review/, then you already know some of my thoughts on this movie.

I think it is a visual masterpiece of stop motion animation and the music is pretty awesome too. Jack Skellington is an iconic figure in movie history now.  If you’ve not seen this movie, I highly suggest you find a means to do so.  The movie is about Jack, the Pumpkin King who has grown weary of the same old thing. He wants to try something new and exciting, but he doesn’t quite understand the concept at heart; it’s not in his nature.  I think many people can relate to Jack’s plight. We get stuck in our roles and it feels liberating to break out of them and try new things.  However, while it’s okay to change things up, we can’t become so enveloped to the point that we forget who we really are.  That was one of several ideas that are presented throughout The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The music is great, the animation top of the class, and many of its characters memorable if not iconic. Directed by Henry Selick, but written and produced by Tim Burton; an animated classic if I ever saw one.
