Evil Dead Movies

Let’s talk about two of my favorite cult classics from the 80’s. “Evil Dead” (1981) and “Evil Dead 2″(1987) starring Bruce Campbell and directed by Sam Raimi. These two films throw all the madness, blood, and 1980’s special effects they can at you.  The movie is the workings of a deranged madman/genius. It’s bloody and strange, but so much so that it’s funny.  I love the movies because they are so bizarre and yet well done. I remember watching them for the first time and from minute to minute not having a clue what was going to come next.  I loved that about this movie.  If you haven’t seen these movies and enjoy horror, then you have to put them on your must see list.  They are so much fun.  Did I say already? Well, I’m going to say it again. These movies are so much fun.

They do have a third movie called “Army of Darkness” (1992) that concludes the trilogy. “Army of Darkness” isn’t quite as fun as the first two, but it is certainly worthwhile watching and has plenty of strange bloody violence and humor as well.  It has a nice conclusion to the whole story that I enjoy.

Of course, with everything being remade these days, they did try a remake of “Evil Dead” (2013) and it didn’t suck (most horror remakes are terrible), but it didn’t have the appeal of the originals. They weren’t as fun, but more like your average contemporary horror film.

What is your favorite Sam Raimi work?
